What Makes a Contact Lens Exam Different Than a Regular Exam?

A contact lens exam is a comprehensive eye exam, but with a few extra steps. You will still receive the same tests and assessments you do during your regular routine; however, your eyes will also need to be evaluated specifically for contact lenses. We need to ensure your eyes’ health won’t be compromised by frequent contact lens use.

If you’re already a contact lens wearer, we check that your eyes aren’t being damaged by contact lenses, and determine if your current brand and style are still meeting your needs. If necessary, we can recommend alternatives.

Contact Lens Fitting

The contact lens fitting involves a series of tests that assess the health of your eyes’ surface and take a tear film evaluation to determine that your production and quality of tears are enough to support contact lens use.

Contact lenses can aggravate certain eye conditions, like dry eyes. But various specialty lenses can provide relief and comfort to dry or sensitive eyes.

Once we have have assessed your ocular health, we’ll discuss your needs and lifestyle, including what you do for work and leisure. This will help us determine the type and styles of contact lenses that would benefit you most.

We will show you how to properly insert, remove, and care for your lenses before sending you home with a trial pair. You will also be scheduled for a follow-up appointment to see how you and your eyes are adjusting to contact lenses. We want to ensure your eyes remain healthy, and your vision stays crisp and clear.

It takes careful measurement and expertise to find you the perfect pair of contacts. If you experience any issues with your current lenses, we can always adjust and use different brands or styles. Our goal is for you to be happy and comfortable in your new contact lenses.
